Zero Plastic is a high school student-run organization that aspires to inspire the youth to reduce plastic waste. It all started with a project we did in the 8th grade. The Ripple Effect Project taught us about ocean acidification, plastic waste, climate change, bioaccumulation, and many other topics related to the environment. With that project we managed to raise enough money to buy three water bottle filling stations for the three schools that make up the High Tech North County Village. From there, we noticed how much of an impact the youth can make if they put their minds to it. Zero Plastic wants to educate the youth about the threats to our environment, and work with them to build a better, plastic-free, tomorrow.

Our organization will use the primary funds to help distribute reusable water bottles to students who cannot afford them. The money will also be used to build better programs such as:

  • Educating others on how to spread the word about climate change, and giving them the resources needed to spread our message.
  • Transportation for volunteers to get to beach and park clean ups.
  • Branching out to schools other than High Tech.
